Located 87 Kms. to the northwest, the town of Rio Verde sits on the shores of seno Skyring (Skyring Inlet). The town, capital of the regional area, is surrounded by beautiful natural attractions such as canal Fitz Roy (Fitz Roy Channel), Seno Otway (Otway Inlet), and the river of Rio Verde, Its inhabitants are livestock herders, and rodeo competitions are held here every year.

The route from Punta Arenas to Rio Verde contains many interesting sites and attractions. Along route 9 as it leaves Punta Arenas are ranches and industrial establishments.
