PRESIDENTS OF CHILE AND URUGUAY GO TO ANTARCTICA
Chilean Minister of Foreign Affairs Alfredo Moreno informed President Sebastian Pinera will travel to Antarctica along with President of Uruguay Jose Mujica, on 13th, 14th and 15 of this month.
NATIONAL PARK TORRES DEL PAINE REOPENED
Chilean President Sebastian Pinera announced this Wednesday January 4th National Park Torres del Paine will be reopened at the area not affected by the fire. Decision was taken after an evaluation meeting to determine safety of future visitors and prevent their access to the site of the fire, which is still being fought and which already affects 13,306 hectares (almost 32,000 acres).
FIRE HAS DESTROYED ALMOST 13 THOUSAND HECTARES AT TORRES DEL PAINE
Head of Chilean government emergency office Victor Nunez informed January 1st the fire in national park Torres del Paine has destroyed 12,560 hectares (some 31,000 acres). However he was optimistic because last Saturday fire brigades succeeded on extinguish three of the six fire seats.
INCREASING DEMAND BY KAYAK NAVIGATION ON STRAIT OF MAGELLAN
Demand for kayak navigation on the Strait of Magellan has increased 30% this season, standing out clearly among the tourism circuits offered to national and foreign visitors in Punta Arenas, according to an article by journalist Rolando Martinez from “El Mercurio” newspaper.
