Chilean Minister of Foreign Affairs Alfredo Moreno informed President Sebastian Pinera will travel to Antarctica along with President of Uruguay Jose Mujica, on 13th, 14th and 15 of this month. State secretary underlined the importance of the visit of Presidents Pinera and Mujica. Chilean President did a similar visit in February 2011 with President of Ecuador Rafael Correa. The announcement was made at the end of a meeting of the Antarctic Policy Counsel (CPA) which began to operate again last April, after four years inactive, adding Moreno the President will make important announcements about adapting laws and treaties currently in force at the area, improve services in Punta Arenas and Puerto Williams since “17 of 28 countries organizing expeditions to the area do it from those cities”, besides looking for new settlements for Chilean bases and encourage tourism.
